KUALA LUMPUR: Every parent would bend over backwards to ensure their child is in a safe and healthy environment when in the care of others, but what happens when it is later discovered that the child’s caregiver is secretly a smoker?
Actress Sharifah Sakinah experienced a similar situation when she found out her maid’s secret smoking habit.
Worried for the safety of her toddler daughter Anais Adha, Sakinah reached out to her followers on Instagram for advice on what to do, via a post.
“I want your opinion. I just found out that my maid is a smoker. I don’t know what to do. Too late to find someone new right now.
“Should I just let her be or warn her. I’m afraid while I’m away, she might smoke around Anais (her daughter). I’m still worried,” she wrote.
The post which garnered more than 23,000 and 200 comments saw many advised her to find a new helper as it was not safe to have a smoker care for a small child.
A few followers wrote that it’s not healthy as her daughter will likely become a second hand smoker.
“Second hand smoker is just as bad. The smoke that sticks to her clothes is bad enough. Get a new helper asap,” wrote @zareenayusoff.
Meanwhile, others said Sakinah should discuss with the helper in a proper manner and set smoking boundaries when it comes to caring for the child.
It is not known whether Sakinah has taken any action to solve this problem.
