#Showbiz: 'I feel insulted!' - Jalil Hamid on pay squeeze

KUALA LUMPUR: Award-winning actor Jalil Hamid feels offended when offered the leading actor role at only RM1,500.

Sharing his frustration on Instagram yesterday, he wrote: “Apparently when you are a veteran artiste, your value drops. I feel so insulted when a production house offered me a starring role where I will be in 12 scenes out of 16 and with two days of filming, at a meagre pay of RM1,500. Feeling useless after having collected all the awards for best actor and popular actor for the past 40 years.)

His fans and followers sympathised with the 61-year-old artiste. Some gave him encouraging words, while others shared their opinions about how the industry is now placing importance on popularity instead of one’s skills and talents.

@kamaruddin610 wrote: “Sabar je lah @jalilhamid, zaman sekarang pentingkan artis instagram je tapi artis veteran berbakat tak dihargai.” (Be patient, these days, Instagram stars get all the attention, while veteran artistes get sidelined.)

@eddiezaidi responded: “U deserve more respect. Pelakon terbaik Malaya.”

Comedian and actor Sulaiman Yassin a.k.a. Mat Over commented how the entertainment scene had changed in recent times.

He also said since the focus had now shifted to popularity, the rest would have to accept this tide of change and soldier on.
