#Showbiz: I was called 'Godzilla Girl' as a kid, says Soo Wincci

KUALA LUMPUR: Beauty-with-brains Dr Soo Wincci admits that she was a plus-sized kid in school and her schoolmates nicknamed her Godzilla Girl.

The 33-year-old actress, singer and Miss Malaysia World 2008, was often teased in school, and faced difficulties in her studies.

Nevertheless, she overcame all of these hurdles with sheer hard work and determination, to become a shining role model in the eyes of Malaysians today.

In an Instagram post yesterday, Soo showed Netizens a pre-teen photo of herself posing beside a hamper. She said in her caption that she was the "fattest girl in class".

"When I was young I suffered learning difficulties and was the biggest girl in class. I was often bullied and nicknamed Godzilla Girl. But I didn't want to give in to my fate, hence I decided to work hard to change my destiny," she wrote.

Soo added: "I know all of you out there can do better than this fat Godzilla Girl. Keep going you all, don't give up your dreams!"

More than 100 Netizens thanked Soo for her inspiring story and described her as a motivational guru par excellence.

"Respect Dr Wincci! You truly motivate me," said Arisya.

"You're an inspiration always, Dr Wincci!" said Nadiah.

"Thank you for your golden words and inspiring story. This definitely uplifts my spirit. Have a beautiful day," said Jin.

Last July, Soo graduated with a second university degree, in innovation and technology in music production from the Berklee College of Music's campus in Valencia, Spain.

She also pursued a doctorate in business administration at Open University Malaysia (OUM) when she was 25.

Soo also has a masters of business administration from the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia and a law degree from the University of Reading, the United Kingdom.

She has been listed in the Malaysia Book Of Records as the first Malaysian beauty queen to graduate with a doctorate.
