#Showbiz: BTS' RM pens touching b'day letter to fans

KUALA LUMPUR: After fans around the world celebrated his birthday yesterday, RM of international K-Pop group BTS decided to express his gratitude through a message he posted online.

According to Soompi, the leader of the seven-member music outfit, who just turned 25, uploaded a picture of a handwritten letter he personally penned in Korean, on Twitter.

The rapper, songwriter and music producer, wrote: “Dear Army (as the fandom is known), are you doing well in this rainy, late summer? To be honest, I can’t really remember my birthdays before my 20s. Looking back, they were a bit special and a bit plain. I’ve felt this even more after realising that a birthday isn’t a day for me to be congratulated, but a day where I should feel grateful to my parents who gave birth to me. It’s already the seventh time I’m receiving an overwhelming amount of messages on Sept 12, which used to be a simple day for me.”

The idol, whose real name is Kim Nam-joon, added: “Shakespeare said, ‘We are advertised by our loving friends.’ I realised once again that the person I am today is someone who has become known through all of you who I love, and someone who has become much more special. I once again hope I can become someone who can let others know about all of you through love and simple truths, and as I’ve always said, I hope my feelings that can’t be expressed through words can reach even just one more person.”

He ended the message, that he wrote while on vacation, with: “I wouldn’t dare to say that I have witnessed all of the love that poured out today, but I’ll gratefully acknowledge and receive it through this short letter. I hope we can be happier for even just another hour. I love you.”

BTS is expected to continue with its extended Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour with a concert at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Oct 11.

This will be followed by three shows back home at the Seoul Olympic Stadium from Oct 26 onwards.
