#Showbiz: BTS sweeps awards at MAMA 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: International K-Pop juggernaut BTS grabbed nine awards at the recent 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards ceremony (MAMA 2021).

The seven-member music group won all four major awards, including TikTok Artiste of the Year, TikTok Song of the Year for Butter, TikTok Album of the Year for BE and TikTok Worldwide Icon of the Year.

It also took home Best Male Group, Best Dance Performance Male Group, Best Music Video, Worldwide Fans' Choice TOP 10 and TikTok Favorite Moment.

Organised by CJ E&M and broadcast through its music channel Mnet, the popular K-Pop music awards was held live on Saturday at CJ ENM Contents World in Paju, South Korea.

Popular K-Pop singer-songwriter IU won Best Female Artist and Best Vocal Performance for her hit song Celebrity.

Members of BlackPink Lisa and Rosé also managed to garner the Worldwide Fans' Choice TOP 10 and Best Dance Performance Solo respectively.

Popular K-Pop outfit Twice took home two awards, namely Best Female Group and Worldwide Fans' Choice TOP 10, while Favourite International Artiste went to popular English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran at the 23rd edition of the awards show.

Closer to home, the Asia Music Category saw Best Asian Artiste went to Tilly Birds (Thailand), Anneth (Indonesia) and QUÂN A.P (Vietnam), while the Best New Asian Artiste was won by SPRITE X GUYGEEGEE (Thailand), Lyodra (Indonesia) and Hoàng Duyên (Vietnam).

The judging process for the K-Pop Category winners for MAMA 2021 were determined by combining the results of global votes, global judges panel evaluations, global digital song/record/music video data and number of views.

Winners of Worldwide Icon of the Year and Worldwide Fans' Choice TOP 10 were selected via a voting process on the MAMA 2021 official website, Apple Music and Twitter.
