#Showbiz: Roy Azman and family narrowly escape burning vehicle on highway

KUALA LUMPUR: Actor Roy Azman, his wife and youngest child narrowly escaped a car fire yesterday.

The 53-year-old artiste shared a video of his car which was engulfed in flames on social media this morning.

He later shared another video of himself explaining the incident that took place last night.

"Praise be to God, my wife, my kid and I are safe. We were able to exit the burning car in time.

"I had sent that car for an overhaul in Ampang. Yesterday afternoon, I had gone to collect the car.

The overhaul was completed.

"We went for a meal in Puncak Alam with friends and when we left at about 11pm there were cars honking at us to indicate that our car was on fire," he said.

Roy explained that the fire was underneath the car and streaking out to the back as the vehicle was moving forward on the highway, so they couldn't see it.

"Eventually we realised what was happening but then the brakes didn't work. Luckily the handbrake was still functioning.

"It took a while but eventually the car stopped.

Fortunately, the car didn't crash into the road divider," he said.

Roy added that the car was already ablaze by the time it had come to a dead stop.

"It was a chaotic moment as the car was really on fire but, praise be to God, we managed to save ourselves and escape," he said.

A grateful Roy thanked everyone who had prayed for them, showed concern and called them and sent messages.

"You all are very sweet. So many people had called us, so instead of repeating myself I'm taking this opportunity to explain what had happened (via the video post on social media).

"Thank you also to Datuk Eg, Datin Heykal, Faezah, Yusof and Akmal who were there with us after that ordeal and accompanied us to make the police report," he said.

Roy added that the car was a total loss and burnt beyond repair.

"But the most important thing is that everyone is safe and sound."
