#Showbiz: I want to make peace, I don't want to fight - Shidee

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran singer Shidee has explained what happened with regard to the alleged assault on his brother-in-law in a flat in Bandar Tun Razak, here on March 24.

In an interview on TV3's Melodi programme, the 65-year-old artiste, whose full name is Rashid Abdul Wahab, said that the incident occurred spontaneously when he returned to his in-law's house after a performance in Bangi.

"It was a late show and I returned to my mother-in-law's home because my son was there and my wife was pregnant. So I always go to that place.

"After I got back at 3am, I showered and sat at the kitchen table. I memorised my songs until late in the morning and then my brother-in-law came out.

"He told me to move my leg. I asked why it had to be moved when he could walk. It wasn't obstructing and the place was wide. I pulled my leg anyway and he then went into the bathroom while complaining," he said.

Shidee added that he did not know why his brother-in-law was complaining.

"He came out of the bathroom and stopped to look at me. I don't know what the reason was. So that night there was a little argument and pushing as well.

"That was all that happened that night. We didn't fight or anything. After that, I asked my wife why my brother was angry the night before. When he (his brother-in-law) overheard, he said, why, aren't you satisfied?

"That's when the fighting started. I looked to see if he really hated me, but I don't know. When a fight happens, we don't realise what happened, so I don't know what happened, whether there was injury or anything broken I don't know," he said.

Shidee said that he then went to the Sungai Besi police station and made a statement saying that there was indeed a fight.

"I was arrested for two days and an investigation was carried out. I think this is what God has laid out for me, my destiny.

"I don't deny all of this. But whatever happens, whether it's about who started it first, by God, I'm not at fault. Even if I'm blamed, even if people say I'm wrong, believe me, God knows best," he said.

The singer also denied that he was hot-tempered or a gangster.

"If I'm hot-tempered, go ask my wife whether I've ever hit her. Have I ever hit the children? If I'm hot-tempered, they will know. Go ask.

"If you were provoked, what would you do? You would surely be angry.

"My wife and I have no problems because she knows that I have never harshly treated her. If I had done that, of course, she would not be agreeable and would be angry with me.

"God knows what I've done. To these netizens, please understand my situation. People always provoke me, I don't know why. This is my fate.

"I hope my brother-in-law understands what has happened. He should understand and know who is at fault. I want to make peace. I don't want to fight. That's all," he said.

Earlier, the police arrested the veteran artiste who allegedly beat his brother-in-law after a disagreement.

A statement from the authorities revealed that the singer was remanded to assist in the investigation.
