Update: Azmin is Selangor MB

SHAH ALAM: Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman Azmin Ali will be sworn in as Selangor Menteri Besar tomorrow.

Selangor Sultan’s private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani confirmed the appointment.

A PKR source produced a letter from the Istana confirming Azmin’s appointment. The letter signed by requested Azmin to attend the swearing in ceremony at Istana Alam Shah at 10.30am tomorrow.

This confirmed an earlier report quoting a source close to Azmin that the Gombak MP and Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyman is appointed as MB.

"Insya-Allah. Pray for it to come to pass (Doakanya)," the source said.

The source also denied an online report that Pas’ Cempaka assemblyman Iskandar Samad will be appointed as deputy Menteri Besar.

When contacted, Iskandar also indicated that he had not received news of such an appointment from the palace.

"(The online news report is the) first time I heard about it.

"I have had no contact with the palace since the 'interview'. I only received an invitation to attend tomorrow," he said.

Azmin, when met after a meeting at PKR headquarters, said he did not receive a letter of appointment as MB from the palace nor did he attend a rehearsal today.

Azmin, Iskandar and Sijangkang assemblyman Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi were interviewed by the Sultan recently to determine their capabilities in helming the state.

The Menteri Besar swearing-in ceremony will be held at 10am in Istana Alam Shah, Klang, tomorrow.

The appointment comes almost a month after incumbent Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim tendered his resignation to the Sultan of Selangor on Aug 26.
