Female hikers made a distress call from Bukit Cerok Tok Kun, SAR mission ongoing

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Two female hikers have sought help from the rescue authority after failing to find their way down while trekking on the mainland here today.

The stranded duo made a distress call from an undisclosed location at Bukit Cerok Tok Kun, here about 7pm.

Both women are believed to have strayed from the trek unintentionally and darkness has prevented them from finding their way down from the hill.

A Bukit Mertajam Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a joint rescue team led by firemen arrived at the scene and sprung into action about 7.17pm.

Also involved in the search and rescue operations are five voluntary firemen units on the mainland, as well as civil defence department personnel.

As at press time, the search and rescue mission is still ongoing.
