KUALA LUMPUR: A couple and their 7-month-old baby were killed in a tragic accident involving three vehicles at KM6.2 of the DUKE highway at 1.05am today.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police investigation and traffic law officer Deputy Superintendent S. Markandan said Fairuz Nizam Husain, 35, was killed at the scene while his wife, Nova Safitri Azhari, 27, and their baby Nur Firuza Annisa succumbed to their injuries at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Initial investigation, he said, revealed the Mitsubishi Pajero the family were travelling in was hit by a Perodua MyVi from the right, causing Fairuz Nizam to lost control of the vehicle before crashing into another Perodua MyVi coming from the left.
"The impact causes the Pajero to spin and overturn several times, and the driver and passengers were thrown out of the vehicle," he said.
It was alleged that the MyVi drivers from a MyVi club were racing with four others during the incident, according to witnesses at the scene.
Markandan said one of the Perodua MyVi driver sustained injury on her mouth while another driver of the other vehicle escaped unhurt.
