1 killed, two other injured after crashing car into tree

GEORGE TOWN: A man was killed after the car he was travelling crashed into a tree near the Bayan Lepas exit of the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu expressway earlier this morning.

In the 12.30am incident, Jebastian Parvindraj Franics Xavier,22, a passenger in a Proton Saga car, succumbed to serious injuries, while two others in the car were seriously injured.

Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the unidentified driver of the Proton car had attempted to avoid two stalled vehicles on the road shoulder.

"There were three vehicles parked by the roadside after an accident.

"The Proton car had swerved, presumably trying to avoid the obstacle and crashed into a tree," he said in a statement today.

Mior said three people standing by the stalled vehicles were also seriously injured in the incident.

"Two motorcyclists aged 30, and another man, who we have not yet identified, is being treated at the Penang Hospital," he said.

Jebastian's body was claimed by his family at 9am, following a post-mortem at the same hospital.

The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
