Flood: Only 359 remain at Malacca evacuation centres

MALACCA: The number of flood victims in Malacca has declined sharply with only 359 people involving 88 families still remaining at two evacuation centres in Alor Gajah as at 4pm today.

State Civil Defence Department director Lieutenant Colonel Effendy Ali said of the total, 327 victims from 82 families were sheltered at SK Belimbing Dalam in Durian Tunggal near here.

He said the remaining 32 people from six families were placed at Balairaya Bukit Balai, also in Durian Tunggal.

"All other six relief centres in Melaka Tengah district were closed today and the victims have gone home," he said in a statement.

He said all three evacuation centres in Jasin were also closed today.

The situation is expected to be back to normal tomorrow if the current clear and hot weather continues
