TEMERLOH: A woman was forced to deliver her baby in an express bus near Lanchang at about 9am today.
The woman in her 20s was travelling from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur on the East Coast Highway when she suddenly developed pains.
Bus driver Mohd Zaidi Yusoff, 37, said the bus departed the Kuantan Sentral Terminal at 7.45am.
He said the bus was nearing Lanchang when he was alerted by other passengers that there was a person on board the bus, suffering from pain.
"I immediately stopped the bus by the roadside to check on her condition."
He said only then did he realise that the woman was heavily pregnant.
"I then placed a pillow under her head and in about five minutes, she delivered a baby girl," he said.
Zaidi said he then continued the journey to the Lanchang rest area to wait for an ambulance.
He said the woman and her newborn was later ferried to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital here to receive proper medical treatment.
