More than 7,000 take part in Ipoh car-free day

IPOH: More than 7,000 people joined the "Car-Free Day" programme at Jalan Raja DiHilir here today, also held to help instil patriotism among the city dwellers.

With patriotic songs being played throughout the half-day programme, kindergarten children also joined a parade while waving the Jalur Gemilang.

Some participants also brought along their children in strollers, with many of them donned Jalur Gemilang-themed costumes.

It was the 10th such programme held in the city this year, with the main aim of achieving a low-carbon environment in the state capital.

Also present were state Tourism, Arts, Culture, Communications and Multimedia committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi, state secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan and Ipoh City Council secretary Zakuan Zakaria.

Apart from the parade, the public also joined in programmes such as aerobic exercise, cycling and kickboxing, held along the main road, which was closed to all vehicles.
