BINTULU: Two friends were killed while two others were critically injured when their car slammed into a tree along Jalan Kidurong near the Bintulu Golf Club here last night.
Julius Robert, who is the driver of the Proton Saga, and front-seat passenger, Julin Gona, aged 22 and 23, respectively, died on the spot in the 11.30pm accident.
One of the two rear seat passengers, Alister Dana, 20, sustained critical injuries and is currently in the red zone of the emergency unit at the Bintulu Hospital.
The other passenger, only identified as Delramos, 23, is in semi-critical condition and is being treated at the same hospital.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief Deputy Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu said preliminary investigation showed that the car driver may lost control of the vehicle before it crashed into the tree.
"We believed that the car was driven beyond reasonable speed, which might led to the mishap."
