Police widen dragnet on Sabah bribery video case

TAWAU: Police have detained five people including two women this afternoon to assist investigation into a bribery video allegedly involving its officers.

The 11-minute video, which was circulated widely on social media, had implied that it was easy for Indonesians to enter Sabah illegally, as boat operators allegedly bribe the authorities.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Fadil Marsus said one of those arrested appeared in the video.

"The 38-year-old man was in the boat when the video was taken by Indonesian media.

"We will take their statements to assist further investigation," he said, adding that all of them work in plantation areas and have no valid documents.

Yesterday, police said it had identified its personnel who allegedly received bribes to allow Indonesians to sneak into the country via sea routes.

Fadil said action would be taken against them if they had breached the integrity of the profession.
