Highway pursuit along MRR2 ends with one arrested, drugs found

KEPONG: One man was arrested while another escaped when police opened fire at their car, following a 10km highway chase today.

A black Proton Perdana, with two men inside, had failed to stop at a police roadblock at Batu 3 Jalan Ipoh around 2.30pm.

A police car from the Sentul police gave chase, and they were soon joined by three other patrol vehicles.

Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner R. Munusamy said they team located the suspects’ car 10 minutes later at along the Middle Ring Road 2, near Taman Layang-Layang.

The suspects’ car had become involved in a multi-vehicle accident. Police shot out the tyres on the suspects’ vehicle to prevent them from escaping.

Munusamy said one of the suspects - a man in his 30s from Pahang - was arrested while his accomplice managed to flee.

Checks on the vehicle turned up a stash of powdery substance, believed to be drugs.

The man was taken into custody. Checks later showed that he did not have a criminal record.

Efforts are ongoing to track the other suspect.
