Almost a smooth run in Cyberjaya

Half-marathoner Syida Lizta Amirul Ihsan reviews the Twincity Marathon 2017.

THE GOOD

Runners have a lot of praises for its organisation.

There were many mobile surau and I prayed the congregational dawn prayer.

The prayer clothes for women and prayer mats available were very thoughtful on the part of the organiser. There were enough taps for runners to perform their ablution.

Water stations were adequate, about one in 2.5km. I skipped a few because I wasn’t thirsty. There are bananas and coffee at Km12 for half-marathon runners like me. There’s also a small stall serving nasi lemak but how does one eat it mid-run?

THE BAD

My colleague who came by car said there was no clear signage on the location of car parks. Also, there were only random distance markers, when usually, every km is marked.

As for me, my media registration wasn’t done despite registering with the organiser soon after registration opened.

There was no race kit in my name, so I was given a random bib. When I checked my results, under my bib number was just a dash.

There were also hiccups during race kit collection for the 21km men’s category and runners were asked to come the day after for their kits, something that should not have happened in any race.

Finisher T-shirt collection for 21km runners was also messy. We had to queue for more than 15 minutes (and that’s after running for close to three hours) because there were not enough counters to attend to the number of runners who finished at the same time.
