Motorcyclist dies after car driver accidentally slams accelerator, not brakes

TAIPING: A housewife, after hitting a motorcyclist with her car, accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, running over the biker.

The victim, a 60-year-old woman, died as a result.

The tragedy occurred at a commercial centre Jalan Regat Kamunting here at 8am today.

The housewife, 52, from Kampung Pisang, was driving when she accidentally hit Hashimah Chin, from Kampung Jana Sambungan, who was on her motorcycle.

However, in her panic over the collision, the housewife inadvertently stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake.

To her horror, she ran over Hashimah, who was dragged for several metres before the car eventually came to a stop.

Taiping district police chief Assistant Commisioner Harith Kam Abdullah, relating the incident, said the Hashimah’s body was pinned under the car.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene shortly after. However, the victim had already died.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.
