PUTRAJAYA: Selangor MCA today lodged a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the state goverment's reclamation project at the Lover's Bridge, Tanjung Sepat.
Malaysia National Youth Legal Bureau Chief Ng Kian Nam said the report was made to know whether the project had received the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report and the approval from the Department of Environment (DoE).
"We have sent more than two legal letters to the state government since July 2016, to seek their response to clarify their reclamation project but they have not been professional to even reply to any of the letters," he told reporters at the MACC healdquarters here after submitting their report earlier.
Ng who represented MCA Selangor also questioned the authenticity of contractor who has been appointed to undertake this project.
"We did a Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) search on the contractor and found that the contractor has many other business including a grocery shop.
"It was also known that many reclamation projects in the Kuala Langat district was awarded to the same contractor. We want to know if the contractor appointed by the state government was indeed qualified," he said.
The Lover’s Bridge issue came to light recently when two popular seafood diners; Ocean Seafood Restaurant and Lover’s Bridge Tanjung Sepat Restaurant which have been operating there for 40 and 20 years respectively, were asked to relocate.
The restaurants are to be demolished to make way for the bridge’s repairs and land reclamation.
It was also previously reported the restaurant owners have asked to be given a longer grace period to relocate to a temporary site.
The restaurateurs were not given anything in writing on alternative locations and were also issued notices under Section 425 of the National Land Code, which can see them jailed up to a year for failing to vacate.
Ng hoped that MACC will carry out investigations to shed light on the matter.
"We are left in limbo because the state government is no communicating with us. We really hope that MACC will bring some answers to our reports especially if there is any special relationship between the state government and the contractor," he added.
