Melaka teacher falls victim to smash-and-grab robbers

MELAKA: A teacher from SMK Malim fell prey to a smash and grab incident in Peringgit here on Monday.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Afzanizar Ahmad said the 29-year-old woman was robbed when she stopped her car at a traffic light junction near the Melaka Sentral bus terminal.

"The teacher, who was on her way to the Melaka Hospital to see a doctor, was driving a Ford Fiesta from Malim.

"In her report, she said two men on a motorycle abruptly pulled alongside her car and smashed the front left passenger window before grabbing her handbag that was on the seat." he said.

He said the teacher's phone was not snatched as she was holding the unit. She was about seven to eight cars away from the traffic light junction when the incident happened.

Afzanizar said among the item stolen included, RM200 in cash, her MyKad, ATM card, driving licence, insurance card and Melaka Hospital medical card.

He added that the victim was unable to recognise the suspects as they were wearing helmets with visors and managed to make a quick getaway.

The case was being investigated under Section 395 and Section 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang-robbery.
