Police report lodged against Zaid over his remarks about Selangor Sultan

KLANG: Klang Umno division has lodged a police report against DAP’s Datuk Zaid Ibrahim for the remarks he had made on social media which were deemed offensive to the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the Malay Rulers Institution.

The report was made by Klang Umno division information chief Wan Mohamad Yusoff Wan Abdullah at the Klang Selatan district police headquarters here today.

He was accompanied by Klang Umno division chief Datuk Nasaruddin M. Zin as well as the members of the parliamentary Federal Village Security and Development Committee.

In the report, Wan Mohamad Yusoff referred to Zaid’s Twitter post which read: “Sultan Selangor should be careful with his words. No one is immune when the country burns.”

Zaid had also tweeted: “When some Rulers play politics, they must know the consequences. Don’t think there is no price for partisanship.”

Wan Mohamad Yusoff said he was of the opinion that the post made by Zaid was rude to Sultan Sharafudidn and an insult to the Malay Rulers Institution.

“The statements made by Zaid was inappropriate and ill intended. It is as if he is questioning the special rights of the Malay Rulers as enshrined in the Federal Constitution. Zaid must be investigated for uploading such a post on social media,” said Wan Mohamad Yusoff.

Meanwhile, Nasaruddin called for an immediate probe on Zaid as he had attempted to ridicule the federal constitution and the Rukun Negara, which places importance on the nation’s harmony.

“As a Selangorian, Zaid’s insolence is unforgiveable. He must be investigated and stern action must be taken against him. The Sultan of Selangor is not a ruler who only protects the Malays and Islam, but one who takes care of all races,” said Nasaruddin, adding that the case should also be investigated under the Sedition Act.
