Police arrest woman in connection with PPR falling chair tragedy

KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained a 23-year-old woman to assist their investigation into the death of a 15-year-old boy who was killed after he was struck by a chair flung from the 21st floor of Seri Pantai PPR in Pantai Dalam in January.

City police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim in a statement today said police arrested the woman Mar 12 based on results of the chemist report.

“She was interrogated during her remand period, however, she did not provide any admission.

“The Federal police had also used the digital voice stress analysis during the interrogation, but it was futile,” he said.

Mazlan said police are still investigating the case although the suspect has been released on bail on Mar 16.

He urged those with information to come forward to help the investigation.

S. Sathiswaran, a Form Three student of SMK La Salle in Petaling Jaya, was killed when a chair, thrown from 21st of a block of low-cost flats in Pantai Dalam, struck his head on Jan 15.

The teen was accompanying his mother S. Kasthurivai, 45, who had just finished grocery shopping.

Both mother and son were about to enter their block, Block 102 at the Seri Pantai PPR at 8.30pm when tragedy struck.

A blue office chair, believed to have been thrown from one of the upper floors, came flying down and struck Sathiswaran.
