AMPANG: A co-curriculum senior assistant at a primary school here was charged at the Sessions Court with committing physical sexual assault against a standard four student two months ago.
The 53-year-old claimed trial after the charge was read in front of judge Azrul Darus.
According to the charge, the accused who taught Visual Arts was alleged to have committed the crime against the 10-year-old at a co-curriculum room of the school on May 25 at 10.11am.
The father of one was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.
The court allowed the accused to be released on bail set at RM8,000 with one surety, with an additional condition that the accused report to the nearest police station once a month.
The accused is also ordered to not disturb the victim and other witnesses in the prosecution's case for the duration of the trial.
The court set Aug 30 for re-mention.
