KUALA LUMPUR: Police are making arrangement to send a team of officers to Indonesia to record statements and conduct further probe into the arrest of six Malaysians for suspected drug trafficking on June 4.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department deputy director Deputy Commissioner Zulkifli Ali said the team has been tasked to gather more information on the case.

"We have checked their background and based on information from our Indonesian counterpart, the six are Malaysians.

"Our team will be there and we will interview them," he told reporters at the Cheras police headquarters here today.

Bernama had earlier reported that Indonesian police have arrested six Malaysians in connection with the discovery of 37 kg of syabu on a yacht in Jakarta on Tuesday night (June 4).

According to the Indonesian Criminal Investigations Department director Krisno Siregar, the vessel was believed to have sailed from Johor to Jakarta on the same day.

Five of the Malaysian suspects detained were from Johor, while another from Perak. The drugs are believed to have originated from Myanmar.

The case is being investigated under Article 114 of Law Number 35/2009 on narcotics, and if convicted, they could be punished by death. -- BERNAMA
