Labourer arrested by MACC for trying to bribe police

KOTA KINABALU: An IMM13 holder was arrested after offering a RM650 bribe to police not to take action against him for driving without a licence.

The 38-year-old labourer was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at 5.30pm today.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy said the arrest was the result of cooperation between the police and state MACC in an effort to curb corruption.

"The case is being investigated under Section 17 (b) of the MACC Act 2009," he said, adding that the suspect would be detained for 24 hours for further investigation.

Karunanithy warned the public not to give any bribe to any member of an enforcement agency or civil servant as it is an offence under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
