Bullet hits radio announcer's home

KUALA LUMPUR: A radio announcer's home was shot at in the wee hours of the morning at Seri Aman Heights in Desa Jaya here.

Gombak deputy police chief Superintendent Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the district police headquarters control centre received a distress call from a man around 1.50am informing them that there was a loud explosion sound outside the announcer's house and that there was a hole in the front door.

He said a team from the district headquarters was despatched to the scene together with a forensics unit and a K9 dog tracking unit to facilitate investigations.

"Investigations at the scene found that there was a hole in the wooden front door of the house and a mark on a wall of the sitting room where the bullet had hit.

"Also found was a piece of metal shrapnel believed to be part of the bullet in the sitting room," he said.

He said that the case was being investigated under Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960 with the offence being firing a dangerous and deadly weapon apart from an area where it is allowed.

"The motive behind the incident is still being investigated and efforts to apprehend the perpetrator are ongoing," he said in a statement issued earlier today.

Members of the public who have information concerning the incident are encouraged to get in touch with the investigating officer Inspector Khalpna Rajandhiran at 03-61262222 / 012-5018901.
