Ministry govt official arrested by MACC over suspected RM40,000 kickbacks

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a government official at a ministry over the suspicion of receiving kickbacks.

The graftbusters said that the bribe, amounting to approximately RM40,000 was received by the government official in return to speed up the process of payment claims from contractors.

According to sources, the male suspect in his 40s was detained around 2pm today at the Putrajaya MACC office.

"The suspect is believed to have committed the act between 2017 and 2020 and the bribe money was found to have been transferred to the suspect's account."

Putrajaya MACC director Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi when contacted confirmed the arrest and said the investigation was conducted under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

"The suspect however, was released on MACC bail of RM10,000 with one surety after the suspect's statement was recorded," he said.
