Two men pretending to be delivery riders open fire, injuring three at coffee shop

KUCHING: Two men fired shots which ended up injuring three individuals at a coffee shop on Lorong 3, Jalan Wong King Hou here yesterday evening (Jan 1).

In the incident that occured at around 5pm, all three victims were dining at the premises before they were attacked by the two men.

A source revealed that the two assailants in the case had pretended to be delivery riders by riding on two different motorcycles.

One of the assailants is said to have approached the victims before firing shots while another attacker fired shots from outside the coffee shop.

Sibu district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Zulkipli Suhaili said that they received a distress call from the public at 5.41pm informing of the incident.

He said that police rushed over to the scene and found that there were three victims injured after being hit by the bullets fired.

"The three victims are aged between 27 and 33. They are in stable condition and receiving treatment at a Hospital here in Sibu," he said.

Zulkipli said that the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and police have yet to ascertain the motive behind the incident.

He advised members of the public not to make any speculation that could disrupt the investigation process.

He also urged members of the public who have any relevant information pertaining to the case to contact the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Mingat Bakil at +6019-886 7978 or to get in touch with any nearby police station to aid in investigations.
