Two more relief centres open at flood hit Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD: Two more relief centres have been opened at the flood-hit district here, where over 200 evacuees are estimated to be placed at three centres.

District officer Abdul Gari Itam said the numbers of victims at Tun Said multipurpose hall have risen to 166 from 120 this morning, while exact figures from new centres – SK Pekan Kota Belud and SK Taun Gusi 2 school halls – have yet to be ascertained.

“However, the day has been cloudy and there is no rain at the moment.

“Water level at Sungai Kadamaian has reduced to normal level (from warning level this morning) while Sungai Abai water level remained at danger level but its subsiding.

“While the weather has improved, villages are still inundated and we do not expect any villagers to return home any soon … In fact we are still in the process of relocating affected ones,” he said when contacted at 3.15pm.

Yesterday, 26 villages were affected by rising water where some roads were impassable due to the continuous downpour.
