KUALA LIPIS: A trader was killed when the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) she was travelling in with her family crashed into an express bus at Km14 Jalan Lipis-Benta here yesterday.
Naza Ria driver Mok Fong Yuen, 43, was killed in the 6.30pm accident while her 51-year-old husband and four children aged between 13 and 19 years old suffered serious injuries.
District police chief Superintendent Azry Akmar Ayob said investigations revealed Mok had attempted to overtake a lorry when she crashed with an oncoming express bus that was travelling from Kota Baru to Kuala Lumpur.
He said the MPV was badly mangled and firemen were deployed to the scene to help bring out the victims who were trapped in the vehicle.
"The express bus driver escaped with light injuries on his right leg while the second driver and nine passengers escaped unhurt. We will speak to the bus driver, the victim's family members and witnesses to assist investigations," he said,
He said Mok's husband and children were currently treated at the Kuala Lipis hospital.
