BUTTERWORTH: Makkal Sakti has lodged a police report against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over a derogatory remark uttered in a speech he recently delivered.

The report was lodged at the Butterworth police station this afternoon.

Its president, Datuk Seri R. Thanenthiran, said that his party and Malaysia’s Indian community are offended by the word, as it is considered an insult to people of Indian descent.

"As a former leader, (Dr Mahathir) should not have uttered such a word and insult Indians.

"His action (was racist and he) has hurt the Indian community," Thanenthiran said after lodging the report.

He is now urging police to investigate and take necessary action against Dr Mahathir, including possibly arresting him, as a deterrent to others against mistreating the Indian community.

He said that no other individual would be allowed to insult Indians and other races in the country.

Thanenthiran also demanded that Dr Mahathir apologise for his remark.

In a speech delivered in Muar on Saturday, Dr Mahathir used the derogatory term while speaking about Pakatan Harapan, which needs approval from the Election Commission (EC) to use a common logo for all of its component parties.
