Bus driver detained after road rampage in Jalan Ampang

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested the driver of the RapidKL bus that ploughed into seven cars in Jalan Ampang last night.

The 32-year-old bus driver, who is semi-conscious and hospitalised for head and bodily injury, is under close police watch at the Ampang Hospital here.

City police Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya also said the driver has undergone a urine test.

“We want to ascertain whether the suspect was under the influence of any prohibited substances while carrying out his duties.

“His urine sample has been sent to the Chemistry Department and we are waiting for the results,” he told the New Straits Times Press when contacted today (Aug 17).

It was reported that at least four people were injured when the bus sped and crashed into several vehicles in Jalan Ampang near Ampang Point here at 8.30pm yesterday.

Several men on motorcycles gave chase after the bus rammed into a car, which subsequently ran down a burger stall in Keramat.

Zulkefly confirmed that the bus was involved in an accident at the traffic light junction in AU Keramat before speeding through traffic, damaging several vehicles in its path.
