Pupils celebrate Merdeka month by cycling around school, fly Jalur Gemilang

KUANTAN: A total of 1,094 pupils from SK Sungai Isap, had a field day cycling around the school compound, while displaying patriotism by flying Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the 61th Merdeka Day.

Along with 72 teachers and staff, the children also took part in activities, namely, poem recital, patriotic songs’ sing-a-long, creative dress and colouring programme.

Several pupils and teachers also stole the limelight by wearing attires inspired by Jalur Gemilang including headscarves and tanjak (traditional Malay male headgear), enlivening the celebration themed Sayangi Malaysiaku (Love My Malaysia).

Headmaster Mohd Ibrahim Ismail said apart from celebrating the National Day, the programme was also held to instill the love for the country and patriotism among the young generation.

“We don’t merely organise activities like listening to (patriotic) songs and singing; more than that, we wanted to attract the pupils’ attention in understanding the true meaning of independence.

“Such programmes are among the methods used in shaping their minds in hopes that they would grow up with the spirit of love for the country,” he said when met after the school-level 2018 Merdeka Month launch today.
