Cheating death – Car nearly split in half, but teen driver walks off with only minor injuries

KOTA BELUD: A 17-year-old teen driver cheated death when his car nearly split in half after crashing into an electricity pole at Kilometre 2, Jalan bypass Ranau, Kampung Pirasan here.

During the 9.30am incident this morning, Shahrul Nizam Asri, who was driving a Proton Saga, sustained only minor injuries.

District Fire and Rescue department chief Rozain Osman said nine personnel and a machinery were despatched to the location upon receiving the call at 9.38am.

Upon arrival, it was learnt that the victim had already been sent to the hospital by members of the public but the heavily damaged car was still stuck to the pole.

“Our personnel did a thorough check to ensure there were no hazards or no other victims involved.

“The cause of accident is still being investigated and the operation was concluded at 9.55am,” he said.

Meanwhile, the district hospital spokesperson said the victim was discharged as he only suffered minor injuries.
