Sultan of Johor to officiate first session of UTHM's 18th Convocation

BATU PAHAT: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has consented to officiate the first session of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM)’s 18th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday.

UTHM Vice Chancellor Prof Ts Dr Wahid Razzaly said Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who is UTHM Pro Chancellor, was also expected to attend the session.

He said a total of 4,048 graduates will received their diplomas and degrees at the ceremony.

“The 18th Convocation Ceremony will be held on Oct 20, 21 and 22 at the Dewan Sultan Ibrahim in our main campus in Parit Raja here.

“The Sultan of Johor, as UTHM Chancellor, will officiate the first session of the ceremony and will present certificates and degrees to 447 graduates.

“During the three day ceremony, a total of 4,048 graduates - 102 doctorate, Masters (318), degrees (2,949) and diploma (679) - will be presented with their scrolls,” said Wahid.

He said this at a Press conference to launch the 2018 Convocation Festival and the Town and Gown procession at the UTHM campus.

Also present were state Youth, Sports and Culture Committee chairman Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar and Yong Peng District Council president Mohd Hafiz Aliman.

On another matter, Wahid said this year’s Town & Gown procession will be held in Parit Raja for the first time since it started in 2009.

He said the 10th edition of the procession would involve 19 contingents comprising 1,000 participants from UTHM’s administration and academic departments, students, uniformed bodies and bands.

“The procession is being held in Parit Raja to foster a better relationship between UTHM and the local community besides being a unique tourism attraction in this district,” said Wahid.
