Annuar Musa: Stop calling for new PM

KUALA LUMPUR: A top Umno leader has told several Pakatan Harapan leaders to stop campaigning for a new prime minister as it would only create instability.

Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said such instability within the ruling pact would have a great impact on the country.

“PH must put a stop to all forms of internal manoeuvring in trying to push out the prime minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad).

“Why don’t you all just allow him to do his job and give all the support he needs because, considering the current situation and the economy, the country really needs strong leadership.

“It is quite worrisome to see our economy not going in the right direction.

“The year 2020 looks very bleak, the world economy will be uncertain, the price of petroleum and other things may not work in our advantage.

“So, what’s important is political stability, because any signal that shows uncertainty would be bad for the country,” he said at the Parliament lobby today.

Annuar said this when asked on the PH secretariat council’s recent statement accusing his party colleague, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, of plotting to disrupt the ruling Pakatan Harapan pact.

PH secretariat chief Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah had reportedly said that the pact had evidence that there was a plot to stop Anwar from becoming the prime minister, which Hishammuddin described as nothing more then a “conspiracy theory”.

As of late, there have been many calls by PH leaders and members, especially from PKR, for Dr Mahathir to step down and make way for PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to replace him immediately.

Annuar said, instead of blaming the opposition, it was time for PH leaders to discuss the matter among themselves and stop politicking.

The Ketereh member of parliament also said that PH should stop obsessing over a personality and start doing their work as mandated by the people.

“This is not about Anwar Ibrahim becoming the prime minister.

“This is about the mandate given by the people for PH to give its best to the rakyat.

“With Dr Mahathir’s experience and him being the unifying factor in PH, I personally believe he should be there (as PM) for as long as he can discharge his duty,” Annuar said.
