Nassier Wahab laid to rest

KUALA LUMPUR: The remains of singer Datuk Nassier Wahab were laid to rest at the Batu Belah Muslim Cemetery in Klang at 11.35am today.

Nassier, 57, breathed his last at 12.45am earlier today at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), Petaling Jaya after being admitted to the hospital on Tuesday.

His wife, Datin Fatimah Abd Rauf, 56, said she took her husband to the clinic for a blood test however the doctor said he had to be admitted due to low blood pressure.

While he was warded, he received blood transfusion and intravenous drip of nutrients as he looked pale, she informed.

"He had fever last night and after taking panadol, he took a rest. Suddenly he woke up and vomited blood," she told reporters at the cemetery.

She said he was unconscious after vomitting and doctors conducted CPR for 40 minutes before confirming that he had died.

Nassier suffered from a growth on his gums and had been undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy since last September.

"He finished his chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments a month ago. Although we are shocked by his sudden passing, we accept that his time had come," she said.

Earlier, Nassier's remains were taken to the Sirajuddin Al-Anuar Mosque in Batu Belah, Klang for prayers.

Some 300 friends and family members were present to pay their last respects including former Lefthanded member Datuk Nash, singer and actor Datuk M Nasir, singers Datuk DJ Dave, Zarul Hussin, Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim, Herman Tino and Ramlah Ram.

Meanwhile, Nash said Nassier was his subuh prayer "Whatsapp buddy" because they would constantly message to remind each other to perform subuh prayers.

"We were always reminding each other and his passing is heavy for me but I accept it and pray for him.

"He was a good friend, very humble and always made those around him smile. Despite his ailment, he would always message me," he said.

Apart from his wife, Nassier leaves behind a daughter, Intan Najihah, 22.

Having started his career in the music industry in the 80s, the Penangite was known for songs such as Sekali Aku Jatuh Cinta, Undangan Rindu and Memori Cinta Luka.
