Woman dies after car pinned under 24-tonne trailer, driver flees

IPOH: A 26-year-old woman died after a trailer lorry laden with chicken food pallets rammed into her car causing it to be pinned under the 24-tonne vehicle.

Noor Aishah Mohd Tahir died on the spot in the incident along Jalan Jelapang here at about 10am today.

It is learnt the accident occurred when the trailer which was heading to Meru from Jalan Ipoh-Lumut lost control before ramming into the Proton Persona driven by the victim who was heading from Meru to Batu Gajah.

The impact caused the car to be stuck under the trailer before it was dragged and came to a stop after ramming into the wall of a plastic goods factory here.

The condition of the trailer driver is unknown as he fled the scene.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Zone 1 chief, Nor Rasidamayati Abd Rasid said the department received a distress call at 10.28am.

"A team of seven firemen from Meru was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the car was found pinned under the trailer and there was one victim inside.

"The firemen took early action by cleaning the oil spill and cutting off the electricity source in the area to ensure the rescue operation was carried out safely.

"Initially, we faced difficulties in removing the victim due to the load of the trailer but was later successful with the help of a crane," he said when met at the scene.

Nor Rasidamayati added that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple injuries and her body was handed over to the police.

She added that the body was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortem and the operation ended at 2.08pm.

Meanwhile, district police chief Assistant Commisioner Yahaya Hassan said police are intensifying effort to locate the man and the cause of the accident is still being investigated.
