Motorcyclist killed after falling into ravine

IPOH: A motorcyclist was killed after being thrown into a ravine following a crash with a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) at KM29 of Jalan Keramat Pulai-Cameron Highlands, here, on Saturday.

In the 5.30pm incident, the motorcyclist died on the spot.

Ipoh police chief Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said initial investigations found the SYM Jetx motorcycle, ridden by the victim coming from Cameron Highlands, had lost control of the machine and entered the opposite lane.

This, he said, led to a collision between the bike and Perodua Alza MPV, driven by a man in his 40s.

"As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist was thrown into a ravine on the left side of the road and died at the scene.

"It was straight downhill road and dry. The weather conditions at the time of was good and sunny," he said when contacted early this morning.

He said the driver of the Alza was not injured.

Yahaya added that the victim's body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for autopsy.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Earlier, a 58-second video of the incident was uploaded on social media with the vehicle's dashcam camera showing a motorcycle crashing into the front of the vehicle.
