New HR Minister clocks in for duty

PUTRAJAYA: Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong clocked in for official duties at the ministry at 1.15pm here, today.

Steven who was previously Deputy Finance Minister II has taken a step up from his role, becoming a full minister taking over the Human Resource Ministry from his predecessor, V. Sivakumar who was dropped in yesterday's cabinet reshuffle.

Steven, who is the member of parliament (MP) for Bukit Mertajam, is currently the youngest minister in the cabinet.

Also clocking in today is the deputy minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad who had changed his portfolio in the reshuffle, being previously the Deputy Works Minister.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced several changes in the federal cabinet line-up and said the decision was made after discussing with leaders of parties in the unity government.

Anwar's restructured cabinet now comprises 31 ministers, supported by 29 deputy ministers.

The reshuffle saw a slight increase from his initial cabinet of 28 members, with assistance from 27 deputy ministers.

Among key changes include the appointment of Employee Provident Fund chief executive officer Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan as the Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani as the Plantation and Commodities minister and the return of Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad as Health Minister.
