Bella's family waits as DNA test results from remains discovered expected next week [NSTTV]

BATU PAHAT: The family of Mila Sharmila Samsusah, 32, or Bella, will have to wait until at least next week to receive the DNA test results to determine whether the discovered remains in Kampung Batu 7, Tongkang Pechah, yesterday afternoon, belong to Bella.

The forensic examination of the found remains has already been conducted at the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) Forensic Department in Johor Bahru, as of yesterday morning.

According to her sister, Norhisham, 36, the family was informed about the results after contacting the police.

"We were informed that the decision (of the DNA test) will be available either this week or next week," he said after visiting the site of where the remains were found today.

Earlier, Bella's mother, Noraini Salleh, 55, along with several other family members, went to the location to see the place where the remains were found.

Human remains were discovered in a room behind an abandoned house following the arrest of a suspect on the morning of the discovery.

Bella's family spent about half an hour inspecting the room, all hoping that it wasn't her.

Previously, police said that they had also taken DNA samples from Norhisham, also known as Ayu, and her mother to see if they match that from the remains found on Friday (Jan 19) afternoon.

Yesterday, the Batu Pahat police chief, Assistant Commissioner Ismail Dollah, said that pathology samples from the Forensic Department of HSI had been taken and sent to the Chemistry Department for a comparative DNA test to confirm the identity of the deceased.

The remains were found with a piece of cloth after one of the suspects was arrested before being taken to the discovery site.

However, until now, it has not been confirmed whether the discovered remains belong to Bella or someone else.

Bella, who is also a single mother, has not been found since reported missing on the night of Dec 14.

So far, police have detained three individuals aged 24 to 39 to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The three individuals suspected to be connected to this incident have been remanded until Jan 27.
