#NSTviral: Couple faces backlash for misusing disabled parking [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A "social experiment" conducted in a mall in Klang Valley has shown the inconsiderate act of a couple parking at a spot reserved for people with disabilities.

In the video, the couple in a Proton Iris had driven into a parking spot clearly marked with a wheelchair icon and painted in blue.

They exited their car and entered the shopping mall when the video host, Zachary Chiah, approached them.

He politely told the couple they should not have parked there, but the man insisted that they would only take a while.

Chiah continued trying to persuade the couple, once again explaining that the spot was meant for the disabled.

The man raised his voice and said: "Do you work here? If you don't work here, are you a disabled person?

"If you don't work here, and you are not a disabled person, just relax, don't disturb me; I need to be quick," said the man as they both walked away.

After over 40 minutes, the couple returned to their vehicle with several shopping bags in their hands.

Their inconsiderate act caused anger among netizens, who had said that the couple did not respect the rights of others.

X user @adekabigail said if the car had no disabled sticker, the security guard on duty could clamp their vehicle and fine them.

Another user, @iyesayaye, said: "Maybe there should be CCTV cameras near the disabled parking areas, which can be directly monitored by the security mall (management).

"If they see anyone able-bodied parking there, they should automatically be fined RM1,000 minimum. Teach them a lesson."

Meanwhile, @c1t0d0s1 said Malaysia lacked enforcement on this matter and said there needed to be a law against those who misuse accessible parking spots, enabling the authorities to tow away their vehicles.

"They can just pay the fine if their car is being clamped. We need to trouble them as how they have troubled the disabled," he added.
