Perak Umno Youth lodges report against Tun Mahathir over 'attempt to topple PM'

IPOH: Perak Umno Youth lodged a police report on Saturday against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for purportedly trying to influence the public to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak through undemocratic means.

Its chief Khairul Shahril Mohamed said the report was lodged based on Dr Mahathir's statements at the recent PPBM annual general assembly (AGM), which appear to have had elements of public incitement.

“(Dr Mahathir) is now trying his level best to topple our prime minister. We can see that his actions are having a bad impact on the country's democratic system, (the same system which was in place) during his 22-year administration.

"We are upset to see his actions, especially his plots against the prime minister, as they could jeopardise the country's stability as well as affect the future generation," he said at a press conference after lodging the report at the Sungai Senam police station here.

Khairul said that Perak Umno Youth is urging the authorities to investigate the matter and to take action against the former prime minister if it is found that he had violated any law.

“We think it is better for him to stop making statements against the government and prime minister. In this country, we have a democratic process in choosing our leader and he should respect the system.

"As an elder statesman and a respected figure, Dr Mahathir should understand how the system works, but his actions are definitely dangerous and can disrupt public order. That is why we lodged a police report today," Khairul added.

In his speech during PPBM’s first AGM, Dr Mahathir stressed that the party was formed primarily to topple Najib and to protect Malaysians.

He also highlighted the need for unity within the party to allow PPBM to grapple with the issues it is currently gripped by.
