PKR leader admits strong possibility of Malaysians voting for BN coalition in the name of stability

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR central leadership council member Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar remained non-committal over the party’s chances in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).

With more than 100 three-cornered fights set to take place in parliamentary seats nationwide, the veil of uncertainty weighs heavy.

Kamarudin refused to commit when asked on whether the party could win GE14, following three-cornered fights expected in 106 areas.

He, however, admitted that there is a strong possibility that the people would still vote for the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.

“The majority of the people are likely to vote for a stable government which can affect their fate, especially when it comes to issues concerning the cost of living. The voters in both rural and urban areas will most likely choose the more stable option.”

He also dismissed Pas’ chances of emerging victorious in three-cornered fights, saying the Islamist party’s chances were slim at best.

“They (Pas) have announced themselves as the third faction and as an advisor or kingmaker, not as a party that would administer the country,” he said, adding that Pas would lose the popular vote.

Kamarudin, who is also Bandar Tun Razak PKR coordinator, crossed over to Pas from Umno in 1999. When he was in Umno, he was deemed to be a close associate of the then deputy prime minister and later opposition leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) communication director, who is also Shah Alam MP, Khalid Samad said the party is dependent on PPBM to win over Malay voters and reduce Umno’s majority.
