Saifuddin: Anwar will not contest in Pandan

BANDAR BAHARU: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will not contest in the Pandan Parliamentary seat in his bid to return to Parliament.

PKR secretary-general, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in pouring cold water on speculation that the incoming party president would contest in the Selangor Parliamentary seat which is currently being held by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said the seat where Anwar would contest would be only be known when he returns from Hong Kong tomorrow.

“I will announce tomorrow at the PKR headquarters and the Member of Parliament who would be involved, will also be present at the press conference.

“The announcement will be made tomorrow. The only thing I can confirm is that it would not take place in Pandan, “ he said after visiting the sinkhole location at Taman Serdang here, as well as visiting the family of two individuals who perished in the incident.

Saifuddin was commenting on Pas directing its election machinery in the Pandan Parliamentary Constituency to be activated in preparation for a possible by-election in the seat.

Last night, Pas vice-president Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad who is also Pandan branch chief in a directive through a Whatsupp message called on the Pas Pandan branch election machinery at all levels to be activated to face a possible by-election.

Saifuddin who is also the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister in a cynical response congratulated Pas for their early by-election preparation.

“The preparations for the Pandan Parliament seat is to face the 15th General Election, as the by-election would not take place there.

“I respect the efforts taken by Pas in preparation to capture Pandan,” he said.
