'Warrior' Tok Pa may lead to others leaving Umno and joining Bersatu, says party's info chief

KOTA BHARU: Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed joining Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) makes him the party's sole voice in the Kelantan state assembly.

Bersatu information chief Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said being the former Umno state liaison chairman, Mustapa would also help boost Bersatu's morale in the state where they previously had no state representative.

Mustapa or Tok Pa who quit Umno to become an Independent MP in September, joined Bersatu on Friday.

Dr Mohd Radzi who described Tok Pa as a 'warrior', said he was convinced that when someone like him joined Bersatu, other Umno division leaders would also follow suit and this would be a major boost for Bersatu in Kelantan.

"We know Tok Pa's track record and nobody can deny this. All quarters must accept that his previous contributions to the country and Kelantan will serve as a morale booster for us in this state," Dr Mohd Radzi told reporters at a meeting between the Deputy Economic Affairs Minister and heads of departments and federal agencies in Kelantan, here, today.

"At least now we have a voice in the Kelantan state assembly and a Pakatan Harapan (PH) Kelantan parliamentarian. Maybe there'll be others after this," he said, referring to Tok Pa being the assemblyman for Air Lanas and MP for Jeli.

Commenting further, Dr Mohd Radzi said he had contacted Mustapa whom he regarded as his political mentor, after the 14th General Election (GE14).

"Personally, I am very happy Tok Pa is with Bersatu. I contacted and visited him after GE14 when he was in the midst of moving out of his government residence in Kuala Lumpur.

"In my heart, at the time, I prayed that one day he would find it in him to leave Umno and join us," he added.
