Pas leaders are big liars, says Amanah

PASIR MAS: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) today described Pas leaders as big liars over the issue of helping Barisan Nasional in the Semenyih state by-election.

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said Pas’ move to help BN during the Semenyih’s nomination day proved that the party and its leaders could not be trusted.

“I actually did not know the content of the meeting between three Pas leaders and (Prime Minister) Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) recently.

“However, Dr Mahathir had said that Pas had promised not to support BN or Umno during the Semenyih by-election.

“Unfortunately, Pas leaders could be seen in the parade with BN supporters (in Semenyih) during nomination day,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after opening Pasir Mas Amanah office at Kampung Jias here today. Mohamad said Pas lying had lost its credibility and soon the people may lose faith in the party.

On the agreement as claimed by Dr Mahathir, the defence minister said he had yet to look at the document.

“As Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, he (Dr Mahathir) is free to make the decision including accepting former BN Members of Parliament joining Bersatu or to expand Bersatu in Sabah.

“I am fully confident that Dr Mahathir will explain all this in our coming meeting and we (Amanah) will also ask him about certain issues,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, Mohamad said Pas had held `dark negotiation’ with Umno/BN years ago.

“Their decision to hold this `rundingan gelap’ has made many party supporters unhappy and this could be seen when 18 party members chose to leave the party after its last Muktamar.

Also present at the function was Kelantan Amanah chairman Wan Abd Rahim Wan Abdullah.

Dr Mahathir yesterday claimed that Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had signed an agreement to cease Pas support of Umno following the Semenyih state by-election.

However, Terengganu Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who also joined the meeting, today denied that Pas had signed an undertaking that it would not help BN in the Semenyih by-election, as announced by Dr Mahathir.

He said the agreement was related to the need to continue with efforts to empower Malays and Islam.

The Semenyih by-election will see a four-cornered fight between Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidate Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul, Pakatan Harapan’s Muhammad Aiman Zainali, Barisan Nasional’s Zakaria Hanafi and independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng.

Polling day is set for March 2.
