'Let PH presidential council decide'

KUALA LUMPUR: Talks on power transition should not be the focus as it would hold back efforts to put the country’s economy back on the right track.

Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu in a statement today said it is best to let the Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council decide on the power transition.

“The government will work harder to restore the country's economy so that the people can enjoy a better life,” he said.

Citing a report by the Singapore Straits Times yesterday titled “Foreign funds flowing back to Malaysia despite political headwinds”, Mohamad, who is also defence minister, said this proves that the PH government had successfully restored confidence for foreign investors to return to Malaysia through its administrative reforms.

Prior to the 14th General Election, the PH presidential council had agreed that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would be the prime minister and PKR's number one Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would succeed him after a certain period of time.

Dr Mahathir had previously said that he would relinquish the post after the 2020 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit in Kuala Lumpur in November.
