Status quo for two Bersatu reps in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: It remains status quo for the two Penang Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) elected representatives in the state.

This was the outcome after a meeting between the Bersatu assemblymen — Bertam’s Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq and Teluk Bahang‘s Zolkifly Md Lazim — with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in his office today.

In a statement released by Chow’s political secretary Teh Lai Heng after the meeting, he (Teh) said both assemblymen voiced their continuous support for Chow.

“They also voiced their support towards the Pakatan Harapan state government.

“As far as the chief minister is concerned, the position of the two assemblymen remains status quo until a decision is made at the federal level,” he added.

Earlier, the two assemblymen arrived in Komtar at 12.45pm before proceeding to the 28th floor. The meeting lasted for about 15-minutes.

Khaliq Mehtab, when contacted, described the meeting as “friendly with a good outcome.”

Bersatu announced its departure from Pakatan Harapan at the federal level recently.

The announcement came after Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad relinquished his premiership.

He is currently the interim prime minister.
